Osteopathy

Any variation from the health has a cause, and the cause has a location.  It is the business of the osteopath to locate and remove it (the cause), doing away with disease and getting health instead.

Osteopathy is a natural and manual medicine aimed at restoring the body’s self-healing capabilities. Osteopaths focus on positively affecting the body’s nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. An unbalanced function of such systems causes the obstruction of the body’s restorative abilities and creates pain or discomfort. These “blockages” are characterized by a loss in mobility of one or more physiological structures such as the muscles, articulations and bowels. At times, the root of issue may even be physically distant from the problem area due to the interconnectivity of the body’s mechanical, vascular and neurological systems.

Osteopathic treatment, therefore, addresses the individual as a whole, helping the body regain optimal mobility. This is achieved through mobilizations, manipulations and other soft techniques carried out at the level of the spine, joints, muscles, hips, internal organs and skull. It is designed for patients of all ages and can alleviate a wide range of symptoms. In particular, it can heal osteoarticular disorders like stiff neck, lower back pain, sprains, tendonitis and jaw discomfort. It can also aid digestive functional disorders such as bloating, constipation and gastric acidity. It provides support for genitourinary disorders, assistance during pregnancy and postpartum, and has infant-specific practices for regurgitation, difficulty sucking, colics, sleep disorders, plagiocephaly, among others. Lastly, osteopathic therapy can relieve the body from headaches, ORL disorders and benefit orthodontic treatments.

Osteopathy is recognized as a first-line medicine meaning that an osteopathic physician is able to make a diagnosis and delegate the patient to another health professional if the problem is outside their area of competence. Thus, the patient can receive a holistic treatment that will not only heal the symptoms but will also search to cure the main cause.
